3D Recon OC

Subsea 3D modeling from observation-class ROVs

3D Recon OC brings metrology-level inspection and modeling to smaller, more economical ROVs. A lightweight, compact version of Zupt’s 3D Recon V2, it generates real-time dense point clouds and accurate, scalable 3D models without requiring a heavy work-class vehicle.

The system supports digital twins, pipeline surveys, chain and mooring inspection, and General Visual Inspection (GVI) image sets. It weighs 13 lb in air and is neutrally buoyant in water.

How 3D Recon OC Works

3D Recon OC combines two high-resolution machine vision cameras and a high-performance MEMS Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) within a single housing.

Using 3D reconstruction, computer vision, and inertial navigation techniques, it generates geospatially accurate point clouds and provides object detection and pose estimation of underwater structures.

Real-time dense point clouds support navigation and quality control during operations. The resulting 3D models provide a measurable record for inspection, metrology, and asset documentation.

Positioning Applications

  • Under/on-hull positioning: Positioning of free-moving targets in the water column
  • Metrology: Metrology-level accuracy of 30 mm over 30 m (1/1000)
  • Out-of-straightness surveys: Accurate offset determination with a multibeam-like deliverable and a position solution within the model
  • Autonomous intervention: Perception and precise positioning for the final few meters of approach to structures and control panels

Modeling and Inspection Applications

  • Asset integrity monitoring: Automated change detection, position, and feature definition
  • Pipeline surveys: High-resolution free-span data, with anode depletion volumes possible
  • As-built documentation: Models showing what is on the seabed and where it is, for import into an operator’s GIS
  • Chain and mooring inspection: Modeling of dynamic structures
  • Digital twins and GVI image sets

Integration and Deployment

Designed for observation-class ROVs, 3D Recon OC connects through low-profile Ethernet and hybrid fiber interfaces for rapid deployment across observation-class spreads.

Its compact design and neutral buoyancy allow advanced inspection and modeling capabilities to be deployed on smaller vehicles.
