When the Standard Metrology Interface Isn’t Available: Zupt’s TS-01

Not every subsea hub provides a straightforward interface for metrology

Max-8 style hubs may not have a metrology receptacle associated with the pressure cap. In other cases, a jumper may already be installed. Either situation can present a challenge when C-PINS inertial metrology is required.

That is why Zupt developed the custom TS-01 tool.

The TS-01 allows C-PINS metrology to be performed on these hub configurations by providing a secure interface beneath the hub face. Deployed in the ROV workbasket, the tool is installed directly onto the hub porch and oriented using its heading reference.

Once correctly positioned, the ROV tightens the TS-01 into place using the tool's handle. A defined indicator confirms when the tool has reached the appropriate tightness for metrology. Once the metrology is complete, the process is reversed and the TS-01 is returned to the workbasket for recovery.

It is a relatively simple, purpose-built tool designed to solve a very specific offshore problem. Instead of allowing the hub configuration to become an obstacle to C-PINS operations, the TS-01 provides the interface needed to perform the metrology.

In the video below, Zupt Vice President, Operations Alex Spriggs explains why the TS-01 was developed, how it works, and how it is used offshore.

Complex Made Simple.
