Understanding Contactless Metrology

In this video, Aidan Thirsk explains "contactless metrology" and its significant efficiency benefit during subsea operations. Traditional inertial/LBL acoustic metrology methods typically require a mechanical interface to physically touch the structure to collect data. In contrast, contactless metrology utilizes advanced sensors, such as Zupt's 3D Recon system, to generate point clouds of subsea structures. By flying between two hubs, 3D Recon collects and analyzes data without physically contacting the structures. This contactless technique can be completed in three hours or less, significantly reducing the time required during data acquisition.
