How do engineers accurately measure the position and orientation between two subsea assets?

One approach is inertial metrology

When a jumper or spool piece needs to be fabricated, those measurements need to be highly accurate. Even small errors can mean fabrication that is out of specification, leading to long term integrity concerns.

With Zupt's C-PINS inertial metrology system, measurements are between each subsea asset while the system records position, heading, pitch, and roll throughout the survey.

The data is then processed using repeat observations and quality-control checks to determine the precise relative position and orientation between the assets.

One advantage of this approach is its simplicity offshore.

Because C-PINS is a standalone INS, there's no need to install acoustic arrays across the worksite before beginning the survey. That can reduce mobilization time, simplify offshore operations, and help projects move forward more efficiently.
