Before & After: 3D Recon V1 vs V2. A Leap Forward in Subsea Data Collection and Modeling

3D Recon V1

3D Recon V1 set the standard for subsea modeling and positioning. With metrology-level accuracy (30 mm over 30 m), it has delivered reliable results for applications like asset integrity monitoring, out-of-straightness analysis, as-builts, chain and mooring inspections, and even tank modeling. Its three-camera design captured precise subsea models, enabling contactless CP heat maps, pipeline surveys, and accurate dimensional control at depth. V1 proved that contactless, subsea 3D reconstruction could replace slower, more cumbersome survey methods.

3D Recon V2

3D Recon V2 takes that foundation and raises the bar. It introduces real-time dense reconstruction, allowing ROV crews to QC models as they're collected. The system was streamlined to two cameras on a 30 cm baseline, paired with a 10 GB internal switch for higher bandwidth, faster frame rates, and future sensor integration. Lighting has increased from 20,000 lumens to 100,000 lumens, dramatically improving visibility. V2 also moves to ROS/Linux for faster processing, introduces PTP time sync without external INS, and transitions to binary data storage for quicker transfers. Together, these upgrades make V2 more efficient, more powerful, and easier to operate in real-world subsea environments.
