Stack Heading and Electric Riser Angle System
Inaccurate positioning of a surface vessel relative to the seafloor installed stack can cause damage and key seating on equipment, and thereby increase costs in expensive offshore drilling operations. Many installed Electrical Riser Angle systems fail to deliver the level of resolution needed to avoid this costly wear.

Zupt’s combined Stack Heading and Electric Riser Angle system (SH-ERA) is the first system to provide a cost-effective solution based on state of the art inertial navigation sensors. Because the SH-ERA system does not use magnetic sensors, it can provide high-resolution heading and attitude data with no loss of accuracy after repeated use. Additionally, SH-ERA can directly interface to the DP desk to provide reliable, high update rate differential data, as well as the vessel’s gyro to automatically compensate for the difference between the vessel heading and the stack heading.

The subsea packaging of the SH-ERA system has been designed to fit into a very small volume, and can be retrofitted into existing BOP mux control systems while consuming very little power. Explosion-proof housing is an available option for a surface return angle sensor mounting below the drill floor.
