Offshore drilling vessels depend on the reliability of their Dynamic Positioning (DP) Systems to avoid damages to drilling equipment. These damages can occur from even the slightest movements of drilling vessels during drilling operations. The positioning data received by the DP desk absolutely must be accurate, precise, and reliable to avoid costly damages and a cease in drilling operations.

Zupt’s D-PINS inertial navigation system can easily be combined with existing DP Position Reference Systems to not only reduce operational costs, but also to increase accuracy and reliability of DP systems. The D-PINS system integrates with existing DGPS and Acoustic Systems to provide extremely accurate, high update rate position awareness by merging our inertial navigation data with standard DGPS and Acoustic telegrams to provide an accurate position telegram to an open slot on the DP desk. Our inertial navigation system eliminates the need to deploy a full LBL array, which reduces deployment time and costs.
